Thankfully Search Institute has already surveyed 4 million children and youth from all backgrounds and situations. With their findings they composed a list of 4o magical cures as to what it takes to make a happier, healthier, contributing member of society. Now what are the Developmental Assets? Search Institute, a nonprofit organization has been a leader and partner for organizations around the world in discovering what kids need to succeed. In 1990, Search Institute released a framework of 40 Developmental Assets, which identifies a set of skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that enable young people to develop into successful and contributing adults. Data has been collected from Search Institute Surveys of more than 4 million children and youth from all backgrounds and situations that has consistently demonstrated that more Developmental Assets young people acquire, the better their chances of succeeding in school and becoming happy, healthy, and contributing members of their communities and society. In short, these 40 Assets act as the building blocks of healthy youth development. Just as you need a number of blocks stacked up to build a solid tower, you need quite a few of the assets to build a healthy, sturdy, stable young person.
